In addition, Rep. Lee Sang-min, a top 5 leader of the Democratic Party, expressed concern about the establishment of a serious crime investigation office (heavy water office) being promoted by some of the party.

Rep. Lee said on Facebook on the 25th, “If the Heavy Water Agency is established, the national investigation function will be too distracting and there are too many investigative agencies (the Heavy Water Agency, the Air Defense Agency, the police, the prosecution, other special investigative agencies, etc.). The pressure will be excessive,” he said.

“Rather, the ability to investigate anti-corruption can be degraded due to disorganization or confusion, and the relationship between each investigating agency can be complicated and very confusing,” he said.

In addition, “In the aspect of reforming the prosecution, since the adjustment of the police department and the prosecutor’s office was just implemented after twists and turns, it is necessary to manage it carefully so that it can be approached well. This is a concern,” he said.

Rep. Lee said, “Rather, the first thing we need to do now is to manage precisely and intensively so that the control of airborne and prosecutors’ rights is settled and operated. Above all else, we are the top priority in overcoming Corona 19 (new coronavirus infection) and recovering people’s lives. You have to put your effort into it.”

He said, “Even if the right to investigate the prosecution is completely excluded, it is not necessary to establish a separate heavy water office, but the so-called serious crime investigation should be handled by the National Investigation Headquarters (Guksubon).” Separation, investigation and complete separation of information is to be sure.”

His argument is in line with the president’s intention, delivered by Justice Minister Park Bum-gye. On the 22nd, Minister Park attended the National Assembly Judiciary Committee and said, “There are two main words from the President to me. He said that the reform of the investigative rights to be implemented from this year will be settled. There was a saying that it shouldn’t be.”

However, despite such a message from the Blue House, there is a growing movement to establish a detention center in the passport, which deprives the prosecution of even the six major criminal investigation rights and separates the investigation and prosecution completely.
