When 150,000 jobs in 2030 were reduced, 475,000 jobs in 5060 increased.

In the third quarter of last year, the number of wage-working jobs increased by 369,000 compared to the same period last year. Jobs in their 20s and under and 30s declined, but jobs in their 50s and 60s and above increased more than this. Due to the new coronavirus infectious disease (Corona 19) crisis, employment of companies has shrunk, and jobs created with money have expanded.

On the 25th, the National Statistical Office announced the’Trend of Wage-Working Jobs in the 3rd Quarter of 2020′. Wage-working jobs refer to the’employment positions’ occupied by workers who work for compensation. It is a different concept from’employment’, which includes self-employed people, etc. If a person who attends a company on weekdays works as an academy instructor on the weekend, the number of employment is one but the number of jobs is calculated as two. In the third quarter of last year, the number of employed decreased by 314,000 from the same period last year.

2030 decrease and 5060 increase

Most of the wage-working jobs, which increased in the third quarter of last year, were in their 50s and 60s. The number of jobs in their 20s and younger decreased by 86,000, and those in their 30s lost 64,000. Conversely, 347,000 more jobs were created in those in their 60s or older, and 128,000 jobs were increased in their 50s. The number of jobs in their 40s, which is the’economic waist’, only increased by 44,000.

In the background of the largest increase in the number of jobs in their 50s and 60s or older, there is a job program provided by the government through financing. In the public administration sector (an increase of 177,000 jobs), which recorded the most job growth, 69,000 jobs in their 60s and above and 38,000 in their 50s increased. Health and social welfare (an increase of 162,000) also accounted for 106,000 in their 60s and older, and 38,000 in their 50s. Both sectors are representative industries that are directly affected by the government job program. Kim Jin, the head of the Statistics Office’s administrative statistics department, said, “The impact on employment of the vulnerable class due to Corona 19 was greater, and to mitigate the impact, the government and local governments carried out job projects, resulting in more jobs for that age group.”

The largest decline in manufacturing jobs

In the manufacturing industry, which accounts for the largest share (21.5%) of domestic positions, 87,000 jobs were reduced, the largest decline since 2018 when related statistics were prepared. The number of jobs in the lodging and food sectors, which was hit by social distancing, decreased by 25,000. The construction industry, which mainly affects jobs in their 30s and 40s, declined by 25,000, taking a negative (-).

The National Statistical Office analyzed that the impact of manufacturing jobs was concentrated in the 20s and under and 30s. Jobs in their twenties and under are declining for three consecutive quarters and those in their thirties for four consecutive quarters, because most of them lost their jobs in the manufacturing industry.

There is a continuing trend of filling the unbearable part of corporate jobs with government jobs. In the third quarter of last year, for the first time since the statistics were written, the number of jobs (-53,000) in corporate corporations declined. Jobs at private companies (-17,000) also shrank. Conversely, the government and non-corporate organizations (240,000) created the most jobs. Non-commercial corporations (199,000) such as non-profit and social welfare corporations that receive labor expenses or subsidies from the government also increased their jobs.

Corona 19 shock is a pattern that spreads from small companies to large companies. Manager Kim Jin explained, “If the effects of Corona 19 etc. have had an impact mainly on individual companies, it has also affected corporate corporations in the third quarter of last year.”
