Kakao decided to discuss with all of its employees on the issue of personnel system, including the controversial’peer evaluation’ method.
On the 24th, Kakao said, “We plan to promote an open talk so that all crew members can freely participate and share their opinions on how to improve and share problems that crews feel, such as the evaluation system next month.” All employees can participate in this event, and personnel managers as well as Kakao union officials will attend. It has not been decided whether or not to attend the CEO. An official from Kakao explained, “The open talk date was set on March 2nd.”
The controversy over the Kakao personnel system arose as a will was posted on the’Blind’, an anonymous community for workers. The article was deleted, but a problem was raised among Kakao employees that the content of’peer evaluation’ among personnel evaluation items was too harsh. Kakao employees evaluate each other’I want to work with this employee again’ and’I do not want to work again’, and the percentage of the evaluation is disclosed to the person. It was pointed out that if the rate of evaluation of’I don’t want to work together’ is high, it hurts the person concerned.
On the 23rd, Kakao also filed a petition for labor supervision at the Seongnam Employment and Labor Branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor, saying that Kakao’s evaluation method corresponds to’bullying in the workplace’. Kakao’s position is to improve the problem by sufficiently discussing the problem with the employees.
