“Because finding a job itself is difficult, the vicious cycle of not building a career continues.”

This is Mr. A’s answer to the recent questionnaire for young job seekers by the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Mr. A said, “These days, recruitment is increasing and the preference for career jobs is increasing day by day. However, since it is difficult for young people to find a job, the vicious cycle continues.”

When asked for an opinion on the reason why it is difficult to find a job for young people in the’Young Generations Perception Survey on the Job Situation’ released by the Korean Chamber of Commerce on the 24th, 47% of the respondents answered “because the company prefers a career job” like Mr. A. . This is a survey conducted by the Korean Chamber of Commerce of 19-34 year old job seekers earlier this month. ‘Reduction of youth opportunities due to labor market rigidity’ (26%),’excessive college graduates’ (13%) and’job mismatch such as avoidance of small and medium-sized businesses’ (11%) were also on the top.

3 out of 4 major groups hired from time to time

In fact, in the field of employment, there is a trend of increasing recruitment at any time rather than recruiting new employees based on regular public loans. SK Group also recently announced that it will change the hiring of new employees to 100% regular hiring from 2022. SK’s recruitment scale is known to be around 8,000 people annually, including experienced workers. As a result, among the four major groups, Hyundai Motor, SK, and LG, excluding Samsung, have changed their regular bonds to regular hiring.

These conglomerates are in the position that there is no official or unofficial bonus point for recruiting new employees. The reason is that frequent hiring is only to save time and money for hiring, increase the likelihood of recruiting talented people who are interested in the job, and select people to work with, led by the working team rather than the HR department. An official from a large company said, “When we need a career job, we are hiring a job posting for a career job,” he said. “There is no reason to be reluctant to hire because new employees are one of the essential talent groups from the perspective of a company as well.

Nevertheless, why do about half of the job seekers feel that’company likes career jobs’? SK hynix, which receives applications for recruitment of new college graduates by the 1st of next month, did not display information such as’preferential treatment for those with relevant experience’. However, it is explained that the hiring process includes’examination of major competency’ and’verification of the level of retained competency’.

In-sik Jeon, head of the employment and labor policy team of the Korean Sang-Academy, said, “In the past, if I passed the universal procedure of the bond test, I got a job. That’s why it seems to be accepted as a feeling of preference for career jobs.” Dankook University professor Kim Tae-gi (economics) also said, “It will be natural for job seekers to have such a view because of the perception that hiring a career job that costs less for job training will be advantageous for companies.”

61% virtually give up on job search

Another problem in the job market pointed out by the Korean Chamber of Commerce is that the willingness to work for a job has decreased. In this survey, 24% of the respondents answered that they are actively seeking jobs.

37% of respondents said’I’m just doing it routinely’, and 24% said’I’m just taking a break.’ According to the Korean Chamber of Commerce, 61% of the youth who added these two response rates were in fact giving up their job search. Insik Jeon argued that “the system and atmosphere should be renewed so that companies can open new businesses, and by systematically promoting labor market reforms, companies should broaden their capacity to hire young people.”
