Residents who were evacuated due to a large forest fire in a hillside in Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do have been evacuating for two days, staying up all night in anxiety.
According to Andong-si on the 22nd, 108 residents of four nearby villages escaped from the mountain at 3:20 pm the previous day from Yasan in Mangcheon-ri, Imdong-myeon to Jungpyeong-ri, a few kilometers away.
Currently, the fire extinguishing rate in Imdong-myeon is 80%.
Forest and fire authorities are speeding up the firefighting work, but 88 of the evacuated residents are still living at the Imhaho Glamping Site.
Kim Manja (79), a resident of Im Dong-myeon, said, “The legs are still shaking,” he said. “The previous day, the fire came to the front of the house and embers were flying everywhere. Even if I evacuated only 5 minutes late, I was almost in trouble.”
“I came to my mother’s house yesterday, and both sides of the road were on fire,” said Kim’s son Kang Seong-yong (53). He said.

In the village of Jungpyeong-ri the night before, the gate was wide open and many empty houses with lights lit in the living room were seen.
It was possible to guess that the residents who received the disaster information text were abruptly evacuated to other villages, such as senior citizens, and there was no situation.
The forestry and firefighting authorities are mobilizing about 1,400 manpower including Gyeongbuk-do and Andong-si public officials, professional and special extinguishers, firefighters, and soldiers to extinguish forest fires in Imdong-myeon, and 23 forest fire extinguishing helicopters to extinguish the fire at the end.
Until now, it has been tentatively counted that 200㏊ of forest in Imdong-myeon has been destroyed by this forest fire.
An Dong-si official said, “We will do our best to complete the extinguishing of wildfires within an early time.”
