The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 22nd that it has extended the approval period for the construction plan of Shinhanul nuclear power plant units 3 and 4 until December 2023, when Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power applied for it.
The Ministry of Industry said, “This is to prevent the disadvantages of KHNP, which will occur when the business license of Shinhanul nuclear power plants 3 and 4 is cancelled, and to maintain the business license for a temporary period until a system for smooth business termination is established.” Unit 4) It was not decided to resume business.”
Shinhanul Nuclear Power Plant Units 3 and 4 received permission for power generation projects from the government in February 2017, but in October of the same year, the government finalized a nuclear power plant roadmap to stop construction of new nuclear power plants, and the 8th Basic Plan for Power Supply and Demand As it was excluded from, construction has been suspended to date. Accordingly, KHNP applied last month to the Ministry of Industry to extend the approval period for the construction plan of Shinhanul nuclear power plant units 3 and 4. This is because the power generation project license itself is revoked if the construction plan approval is not obtained without a justifiable reason within four years of obtaining the power generation project license under the Electricity Business Act.
The Ministry of Industry said, “If the power generation project license is canceled due to the failure to obtain the construction plan approval within the deadline, it is impossible to obtain a new power generation project license for the next two years. It is necessary to maintain the power generation project license until a separate administrative disposition related to the power generation project permit or the enactment of laws and regulations and related laws for cost preservation are established.”
The Ministry of Industry also said, “Because of the energy conversion policy, not KHNP’s responsibility, it is difficult to revoke the business license under the Electricity Business Act because it was not received within the deadline. It is reasonable to extend the construction plan approval period.”
