The fire and forest authorities said, “At 3:20 pm on the 21st, a fire broke out in the hills of Mangcheon-ri, Imdong-myeon, Andong-si. At 5:48 pm, the second phase of the response was issued.” The authorities also issued Forest Fire Fire Mobilization Decree No. 1 to mobilize 5% of fire fighting personnel from Gyeongnam, Daegu, Ulsan, Changwon, Chungnam, Daejeon, and Busan fire departments. Andong-si ordered residents of Jungpyeong-ri, Imdong-myeon to evacuate to Sugok-ri and Gocheon-ri, etc., and controlled National Route 34 in the Sugok Bridge area near the Imdong-myeon office. The forest authorities and Hadong-gun mobilized 14 helicopters and 600 people, including firefighters, to extinguish the fire, and ordered evacuation from nearby food shop villagers at 4 pm. Helicopters ceased as the sun went down, and firefighters built a barrier to keep the fire from spreading to other mountains. An official of Ha Dong-gun said, “It will take a considerable amount of time to extinguish the fire.” Meanwhile, the Nochusan forest fire in Jeongseon, Gangwon-do, which took place on the 20th, caught a big fire at 9:40 am on the 21st.
