The Personal Information Protection Committee and the Central Defense Countermeasure Headquarters announced that a personal security number will be introduced and will be implemented from the 19th so that citizens can safely create a handwritten list when visiting multi-use facilities such as restaurants and cafes.
The personal security number is a unique number of 6 characters consisting of 4 numbers and 2 Korean characters, and can be easily checked on the QR check-in screen of Naver, Kakao, and Pass. After the first issue, it can be used until the end of Corona 19.
When a mobile phone number is listed on a handwritten list installed in a multi-use facility, there have been a problem that the number is abused for private purposes rather than for COVID-19 quarantine, increasing public unrest.
If you use a personal security number, you can block the leakage and misuse of your mobile phone number. The personal security number is a randomly converted mobile phone number, and the number alone cannot be used to send text messages. It is expected that more accurate epidemiological investigations will be possible with fewer false entries due to concerns about personal information leakage.
Considering that there are many multi-use facilities that manage only handwritten lists, the Personal Information Commission expected the effect of introducing personal security numbers to be great. As a result of checking the management status of access registers at 32,000 multi-use facilities nationwide by the Personal Information Commission, 56.3% of cases used both electronic and written access registers, and 42.5% of cases using only handwritten access registers. The personal security number was created through’government-civil society-private collaboration’. Seven civic hackers united under the name’Code for Korea’ donated ideas and technologies for developing personal safety numbers. QR code issuing agencies such as Naver, Kakao, and Pass also cooperated by displaying on the QR check-in screen so that the public can easily check their personal security number.
