A foreign worker who was first confirmed in a factory here was notified of the confirmation of the diagnosis two days later, but it was revealed that he had been traveling here and there in the meantime, and the quarantine authorities were in emergency.

The number of confirmed cases increased?

Yes, Namyangju has counted 123 people to date with cumulative confirmed cases related to the factory.

Eight more people have been confirmed since yesterday.

There were four foreign workers in the factory here, three families of the confirmed patients, and one Korean worker in nearby factories.

Previously, a total inspection was started on about 1,200 employees of nearby factories, and currently 952 people have completed the inspection.

Initially, Namyangju City, which has jurisdiction, identified 954 people to be tested, and then corrected it to 952.

Of these, one Korean person tested positive.

The remaining 200 people who have not been tested will be tested at a health center near their homes within today, and results will be available as early as evening.

By the way, the confirmed and negative workers are gathered together in the dormitory?

Yes, 25 of the workers here who were confirmed are living treatment centers. Two of them were moved to the in-house hospital, and the remaining 91 are now gathered in the dormitory in the building behind me.

However, foreign workers who were judged negative were unable to find a place to self-isolate.

So, we are being quarantined together in the dormitory here where the confirmed person is.

Since there are toilets and public spaces in the dormitory, there is a risk that additional workers who have been tested negative will be infected.

The local government having jurisdiction is planning to transfer the confirmed cases outside today.

That’s right. In particular, the first confirmed case was confirmed on the 13th, but the notification was not made until the 15th, two days later.

The health authorities explained that there was some delay in the process of transferring the confirmation information from the clinic where the test was conducted to Yongsan-gu and from Yongsan-gu to Namyangju.

In addition, it was found that the confirmed case went outside for two days, even though self-isolation is the principle before receiving notification of confirmation.

It is known that the day the diagnosis was made was a house in Yongsan-gu, and the next day, he stopped at a mart in the same area, and then moved to the dormitory in Namyangju by public transportation.

It is urgent to identify the contact person.

Along with this, it is known that some factory workers left the dormitory during the Lunar New Year holidays and wandered around downtown Namyangju and Itaewon, Seoul.

The quarantine authorities are currently employing about 10 epidemiological investigators to understand the movement of other confirmed cases.
