[아시아경제 뉴욕=백종민 특파원] The Trump Plaza Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey, the leading gambling city in the eastern United States, has been demolished. The US media is considering it as an example of the fall that began with the retirement of former US President Donald Trump.

The Associated Press and other US media reported on the 17th (local time) that the hotel building was demolished by a blast method.

The hotel opened in 1984 when former President Donald Trump was a real estate entrepreneur. At the time of its opening, it was considered the largest hotel and successful casino in Atlantic City. The casino, where George Clooney and Brad Pitt first met in the movie’Ocean’s Eleven’, was at the hotel.

The hotel began to collapse when former President Trump focused on the Trump Taj Mahal, which opened nearby in 1990. After filing for bankruptcy in 2009, former President Trump lost ownership and transferred to bankruptcy court officials, but the name’Trump’ remained in the building for a while.

Billionaire Carl Icahn took over the building in 2016, but after the business ceased in 2014, it remained as a horror and was demolished.

Atlantic City’s casino industry, unlike Las Vegas, continued to decline, and Trump’s business could not escape the crisis. Trump Taj Mahal’s casino also closed 26 years after opening in 2016.

The Associated Press said, “The scene where movie stars, athletes, and rock stars held a party and the future president (Trump) honed his pretentiousness and exaggeration to a dusty pile of stones,” said the Associated Press.
