Kwon Chil-seung, Minister of SMEs (Ministry of Small and Medium Business), met with the medium-sized industry for the first time after taking office.

Minister Kwon promised active communication with the field, saying, “I am not a person who is so tightly blocked.”

The Small and Medium Business Administration (National Federation of Small and Medium Businesses) held a round-table conference at the Yeouido Mid-term National Assembly in Seoul on the 17th and met with Minister Kwon Chil-seung for the first time after taking office.

Chairman Kim Ki-moon said in a greeting, “Minister Kwon was selected as the best member of the National Assembly by small and medium-sized enterprises when he served as the Small and Medium Venture Business Committee of the 20th National Assembly, and has a deep connection with the National Assembly, such as providing legislative support for the development of SMEs and small businesses.” And congratulated her inauguration.

“Recently, in the industry, there is a story about the’new economy $3′, such as the unfairness of transactions between large and small and medium-sized companies in the subcontracting structure, the imbalance of the market between online and offline distribution, small business owners, and the system in the procurement market. There are many,” he urged for a solution.

In addition, it was suggested to include small businesses directly hit by Corona 19 in the loss compensation system that the government and the National Assembly are discussing, and to refer to the decrease in sales as a support criterion.

Minister Kwon responded, saying, “The activities of our small and medium-sized businesses are outstanding even in the midst of the Corona 19 crisis last year. He expressed his gratitude for the role of the SMEs and the mid-term national assembly, and revealed his vision for mid-term policies such as recovery of the public economy such as SMEs and small business owners, transition to a leading economy, and a win-win economy.

Minister Kwon said, “I am not a person who is so tightly blocked back and forth,” and “The minister will take the lead first to become a mid-century department that visits, empathizes, and communicates. Please convey a lot of field talks and difficulties.”

At the meeting, current issues of small and medium-sized businesses to improve the business environment, such as support for technology development to overcome the Corona 19 crisis and vitalization of cooperatives, were discussed.

Specifically, △Support for common demand technology development (R&D) for small and medium-sized business cooperatives △Cultivation of small and medium-sized business cooperatives and expansion of small and medium-sized enterprises △Reduction of the share of small and medium-sized enterprises participating in the smart factory project △Support for expansion of cooperative participation in SME support policies △ Support for expansion of cooperative participation in SME support policies △Improvement of the’lowest price factor’ of the public procurement market was suggested.

It also suggested △improving the system for competitive products between SMEs, △Activating union-recommended voluntary contracts △Improving the system to receive proper payments △Establishing a control tower to prepare comprehensive corporate succession support measures △Supporting strengthening of SMEs’ industrial safety capabilities and expanding prevention guidance.

Minister Kwon responded by discussing the contents of the proposal with the heads of the SMEs at the site.

He said, “We are planning a new task in relation to R&D support for common demand for medium-term cooperatives,” he said. “I will try to listen to everything and actively reflect it in the policy.”
