The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 16th that it will be possible to easily apply online for the separate payment of youth housing benefits (hereinafter referred to as youth housing benefits) from the 17th. The application site is welfare road. It is a portal for providing information on various welfare systems and online application for welfare services.
The youth housing benefit is a system in which unmarried children in their twenties in a household receiving housing benefits live separately from their parents for the purpose of studying or finding a job, and to provide housing benefits to their children separately from the housing benefits paid to their parents. It is intended for unmarried young people aged 19 to under 30 who live away from their parents for the purpose of attending school or finding a job. Households with a standard median income of 45% or less (1,79,2778 won based on three-person households) are eligible for supply.
In order to receive the benefits, the distance between the parent and the youth’s residence must exceed 90 minutes one way or more based on public transportation, or if the parent and the youth live separately in urban and rural areas in urban and rural complex cities. In addition, if a youth has a disability or rare intractable disease following the application of the separate household special insurance, it is possible to apply for separate payment for youth.
The calculation of housing benefits is determined by applying the standards set by the government on the basis of households including parents and young adults. Housing salary paid to separated youths is limited to 310,000 won in Seoul, 239,000 won in Gyeonggi and Incheon, 190,000 won in Sejong and metropolitan cities, and 163,000 won in others. Self-pays are incurred depending on the household’s wealth and income.
The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs introduced the case of youth housing benefits, taking as an example a three-member household consisting of parents living in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, and children in their 20s living in Seoul.
Under the premise that the supply and demand standards are met, if the family lives in Cheongju, they can receive 217,000 won per month as general housing benefits. However, if children in their twenties live in Seoul, parents living in Cheongju can receive 183,000 won per month, and children living in Seoul can receive 310,000 won per month.
Until now, youth housing benefits had to be applied by visiting administrative welfare centers in Eup/Myeon/Dong. In the future, it is possible to easily apply online through the welfare route at home or at work.
