[사회]AZ vaccine, given only under the age of 65 from the 26th…”holding the elderly”

[앵커]

Starting with the AstraZeneca vaccine, the COVID-19 vaccination will begin on the 26th.

In the first place, vaccination for the elderly who are vulnerable to Corona 19 was said to be the top priority, but those over 65 were withheld due to the lack of evidence of efficacy.

A setback in the vaccination plan has become inevitable, and the details are reported by reporter Lee Hyung-won.

The corona 19 vaccination will begin on the 26th, starting with the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Priority is given to over 272,000 people, including residents and workers under the age of 65 in nursing hospitals and nursing facilities.

Among these workers, the number 1 inoculation is expected.

Those over 65 years old, which were ranked first in the first place, were postponed to the second quarter vaccination due to the fact that the efficacy of the elderly has not been proven.

There was a disruption in the vaccination plan to give priority to the elderly, who are high-risk groups who die when infected or have a high rate of severe progression.

From next month, more than 350,000 medical personnel at high-risk medical institutions and 78,000 people, including quarantine and epidemiological investigation personnel, will receive the AstraZeneca vaccine.

More than 55,000 medical staff caring for COVID-19 patients will be vaccinated with Pfizer vaccine, which will arrive at the end of this month or early next month through’CoVax’, the international vaccine supply organization.

As such, the number of vaccinations for the first quarter was only 750,000, far less than the 1.3 million originally planned.

Medical institutions are planning to provide vaccinations on their own and in nursing homes with residents with limited mobility.

Pfizer vaccines that require cryogenic storage should be inoculated at hospitals dedicated to infectious diseases.

However, in order to minimize the amount of vaccine discarded, we plan to inoculate at regional centers when the number of people is small.
