The success or failure of quarantine during the Lunar New Year holidays is expected to be decided after the middle of this week.

The number of new confirmed cases remained at the 300 level for three consecutive days due to the decrease in the number of consecutive holidays.

As of today 0 o’clock, there are 344 new cases.

It was 18 people higher than the previous day, but it reached 300 people for three consecutive days.

When looking at the route of infection, domestic outbreaks were 323 and foreign inflows were 21.

By region, Seoul has 147 people, Gyeonggi has 99, and Incheon has 9, with 255 people in the metropolitan area alone.

Of these, 50 were confirmed positive at the temporary screening test in the metropolitan area.

In the non-metropolitan area, 15 people in Busan, 12 in Daegu, 9 in Chungnam, and 8 in Gyeongbuk.

The number of foreign inflows was 21, including 6 confirmed at the quarantine stage.

The number of people who died from Corona 19 increased by 5 to 1,527, and the number of severely ill patients remained the same as 156.

However, concerns over re-proliferation remain centered around the metropolitan area.

Minister of Health and Welfare Kwon Deok-cheol said, “78.8% of confirmed cases in Korea during the Lunar New Year holiday occur in the metropolitan area, so it is not a situation where you can be relieved.”

In particular, the infection reproduction index in the metropolitan area exceeded 1 for two consecutive weeks.

If this number is 1 or higher, it indicates an outbreak.

Under these circumstances, the risk of a mutant virus, which is more powerful than the existing virus, is also increasing.

Beginning later this week, the effects of distancing mitigation measures may also appear slowly.

The quarantine authorities believe that two weeks after the Lunar New Year holiday are important and are paying close attention to the trend of confirmed cases.
