The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 14th that it plans to support more than 6,000 public rental houses this year to increase housing for vulnerable groups living in non-housing such as Jokbang and Gosiwon.
Through a public offering last month, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport selected 30 project areas of 12 local governments, including Incheon, Gyeonggi, Seoul, and Daegu, as the leading local governments in the housing upgrade support project. Selected local governments will discover the desired public rental housing by utilizing the amount of local welfare areas such as residential welfare centers and social welfare centers.
Local governments and the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) will collaborate to closely support the entire process from housing counseling to moving-in and settlement for vulnerable groups who cannot afford to move into public rental housing alone.
The LH Immigration Support Center, which is operating in 50 regions nationwide, also provides dedicated support for the vulnerable to a series of processes such as public rental consultation, contract preparation, and housing matching.
Along with this, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has been pushing ahead with the maintenance project at Yeongdeungpo and Daejeon Stations since last year, and at Seoul Station this year. In the future, the residents of Jokbang will be able to live in a wider residential space than the present at a low rental rate of about 15 to 30%. When relocating to a new rental housing, housing transfer fees and moving expenses are also provided so that the deposit required for moving in can be paid. The housing relocation cost is about 8 million won as of the current standard of 4 months for urban workers, and the moving cost is differentially paid according to the area, and the current standard is estimated at 600,000 won for less than 33㎡.
Meanwhile, land and building owners, including the local redevelopment preparation committee, are fiercely protesting the’Seoul Station Sidebang Village Maintenance Project Promotion Plan’ announced by the government on the 5th. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is planning to actively collect opinions for resettlement of residents in the side of the room and for fair compensation of land and home owners, and actively consult with related organizations such as local governments and LH.
