The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 14th that air passengers in 2020 were counted to 39.4 million, a 68.1% decrease from the previous year due to the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) pandemic.

International and domestic passengers decreased by 84.2% and 23.7%, respectively, compared to the previous year. For air cargo, international cargo (excluding baggage) increased 0.4%, while passenger baggage decreased 23.9%.
International passengers fell 84.2% to 1424 million. By region, ▲ Japan (-88.2%) ▲ China (-87.8%) ▲ Asia (-83.4%) ▲ Americas (-72.3%) ▲ Europe (-82.2%).
By airport, all airports such as ▲Incheon (-83.1%) ▲Jeju (-89.4%) ▲Gimpo (-87.3%) ▲Gimhae (-88.0%) decreased.
By airline, the case of large domestic airlines (FSC) decreased 82.3% from the previous year. Low-cost airlines (LCC) decreased 86.7% year-on-year.
Domestic passengers recorded 1.1 million, the lowest level in the year in March, due to concerns over Corona 19. After that, it showed a rapid recovery, and in November, it reached 2.94 million, an increase of 2.5% from the same month last year. However, due to the impact of the third epidemic that began in late November, the number of people in 2020 decreased by 23.7% to 25.16 million.
By airport, passengers on routes other than Yangyang (535.7%) and Pohang (100.2%) on Jeju routes decreased. Inland routes increased from Gwangju to Gimpo (71.4%), Gimpo to Gimhae (13.2%), and Gimpo to Yeosu (23.2%), while other routes decreased.
Domestic FSC’s domestic passenger transport volume was 8.29 million, down 40.4% from the previous year. Low-cost airlines carried 16.87 million people, down 11.5%.
Air cargo decreased by 23.9% to 325 tons due to an increase in domestic and international passenger planes. However, the amount of cargo excluding baggage was 291 tons, a decrease of only 0.6% from the previous year.
International cargo decreased by 23.5% compared to the previous year due to the reduction in baggage in all regions. On the other hand, air cargo excluding baggage increased from the previous year in ▲ Americas (12.8%) ▲ China (4.6%) ▲ Others (1.2%).
Domestic cargo fell 29.7% year-on-year to 180,000 tons, decreasing both inland (-53.3%) and Jeju (-26.8%) routes.
