On the morning of the 12th, New Year’s Day, congestion is occurring on highways nationwide.

According to the Korea Expressway Corporation, the time it takes to reach major cities across the country from Seoul toll booths at 10 am is Busan, 4 hours and 50 minutes, Gwangju Metropolitan City 3 hours and 40 minutes, and Gangneung 3 hours and 10 minutes. It is expected that the congestion begins at 7-8 a.m., peaks at 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., and releases at 7-8 p.m.

The direction of return to home is expected to begin at 9-10 am, peaking at 1-2 pm, and resolve at 10-11 pm.

During the holiday season, the national traffic volume is 4.29 million. As both return and return vehicles are coming out on the highway, it is expected that there will be severe congestion in both directions from morning to late night.

As of 9:20 am, cars are slowly moving in the 7.52km section of Hannam Interchange to Seocho Interchange and Geumto Intersection to Daewang Pangyo Interchange toward Busan on the Gyeongbu Expressway. In particular, traffic congestion occurs in the 2km section between Banpo and Seocho and near the Dongtan junction.

The West Coast Expressway is driving slowly in the 3.8km section of Palgok Junction in the Mokpo direction to Maesong Intersection. Cars are walking tortoise in the 5.23km section of Hanam Interdummok~Sangok Junction towards Nami of Jungbu Expressway, and the Yeongdong Expressway is congested in the 2km section near Yongin~Yangji Tunnel in Gangneung.

Gwangju-Wonju Expressway in the direction of Wonju, Gyeonggi Gwangju Junction ~ Konjiam 1 Tunnel (east side), the vehicle is running slowly, and the 2km section of the Transcendence Tunnel is blocked. Even at the Bukchangwon Intersection to Chilwon Junction on the Namhae Expressway toward Suncheon, the number of vehicles gradually increases, showing a frustrating trend.
