Aiming to reduce 725,000 tons of carbon this year
Re-emphasis on planting 300,000 trees over 30 years
Also revealed the implementation of the’K-Forest’ promotion plan
The Forest Service announced plans to plant 48 million trees this year, saying that this year will be the first step in promoting the ‘2050 carbon neutral’ forest sector. Through this, it set a goal of reducing carbon by about 725,000 tons and made clear plans to plant 3 billion trees over 30 years.
The Korea Forest Service released a New Year’s Business Report on the 8th, containing the direction of the 2021 forest policy. The vision of this year’s work plan was set to be’a new future to live with the forest and live with the forest’, and for this, three core tasks were selected.
The first task presented is to smoothly implement the 2050 carbon-neutral forest sector promotion strategy. It has set a goal to reduce carbon by about 725,000 tons by planting 48 million trees this year. Earlier, the Korea Forest Service announced its long-term plan to plant 3 billion trees over 30 years.
In addition, the plan is to improve the unbalanced age distribution concentrated in middle and long forests by expanding timber harvesting and renewal, to introduce and develop’climate species’ in preparation for the era of climate crisis, while establishing a stable wood supply system based on smart technology. . Urban forests will also be expanded to expand new forest carbon sinks.
The second goal is to implement the’K-Forest’ promotion plan, the forest sector plan of the’Korean Version New Deal’. By establishing a data management system for all data from the collection of forest data to the opening and utilization of forest data, the digital transformation of forest management is promoted, and the’Smart Forest Welfare Facility’ linking advanced technology and health care and the’intelligent type’ applying the 4th industrial revolution Introducing digital and non-face-to-face technologies into the forest sector, such as establishing a forest disaster management system.
The third core task was to establish a Korean forest disaster management system. To this end, the Korea Forest Service plans to implement the newly established’K-Forest Fire, Landslide Prevention Countermeasures’ in preparation for forest disasters caused by abnormal weather.
The main contents are strengthening prevention activities for each cause of forest fire, blocking the outbreak of forest fires through the establishment of local customized infrastructure, and introducing a special forest fire disaster extinguishing team and drone fire extinguishing team. In addition, last year’s landslide damage area (1343ha) was restored before the rainy season (June), and basic investigations and erosion projects for areas concerned with landslides will be expanded. The’landslide risk map’ is also advanced and the range of landslide predictions is expanded from 1 hour to 12 hours to enhance public safety.
Park Jong-ho, head of the Korea Forest Service, said, “This year, all officials of the Forest Service will prepare for a new future through bold policy innovation and capacity enhancement.” I will try to make it.”
