In addition, the Democratic Party is concentrating on presenting a blueprint for’after Gaduk’ while making the handling of the special law at Gaduk New Airport a prerequisite. Gadeok New Airport and Jinhae New Port will be developed into a mega-city comparable to the metropolitan area through the creation of a complex logistics complex and a hinterland city, construction of a wide-area transportation network, and expansion of free economic zones and special economic zones with both wings. To this end, the composition of a pan-government promotion group under the Prime Minister’s Office is also being reviewed.

On the morning of the 9th, the Democratic Party held a party policy discussion on the theme of the’Southeast New Economy Engine’ hosted by the Party’s K-New Deal Committee at the National Assembly on the morning of the 9th to discuss plans for economic development in the Southeast region after the Gadeok New Airport Special Act was handled. Representative Lee Nak-yeon said at this meeting, “If a special law is enacted within this month, Gadeok New Airport will become a fixed fact. After the new airport, it is necessary to prepare the development strategies for Busan, Ulsan and Gyeongnam in advance.”
The K-New Deal Committee, which is preparing the Southeastern development strategy with government ministries such as the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, said, “We will build a Triport platform by constructing a gateway airport, Busan-Jinhae New Port, and a hinterland railroad. Based on this, we will build a logistics industrial complex and a hinterland international city. By creating a logistics-centered mega city that surpasses Shanghai.” Specifically, a plan is being discussed to attract global logistics companies such as Amazon by significantly expanding special economic zones such as Gadeok New Airport and the New Port area, free economic zones and free trade zones, and dramatically increasing benefits such as tax support for tenant companies. In addition, it included not only the establishment of a wide-area transportation network, but also the expansion of the connection network between Gadeok New Airport and the city center of Boulgyeong, and improvement of settlement conditions such as education to create an international level hinterland city in this area.
The K-New Deal Committee predicted that if such a concept is realized, the employment inducement effect of 400,000 people and the production induction effect of 200 trillion won will occur. In particular, the Democratic Party is discussing a plan to launch a promotion group under the Prime Minister’s Office, in which all ministries participate in order to enhance the execution power of the initiative.
Rep. Lee Gwang-jae, general manager of the K-New Deal Committee, said, “Looking at the case of Incheon International Airport, there was a lot of difficulty because the main body of the project was scattered across various ministries. We are considering how to make it.” Reporter Jeon Chang-hoon jch@
