An American man in his 50s who accidentally drowned his 18-month-old granddaughter in the sea while on a Caribbean cruise with his family was saved from prison.

The U.S. media quoted an announcement by the U.S. Puerto Rico legal authorities on the 8th (local time), and a local court probated Salvatore Anello (52), the accused of the death of a baby crash on a cruise ship anchored in San Juan, Puerto Rico in July 2019. They reported that they had a three-year ruling.

The lawyer said Anello would be probated in Indiana.

Anello suffered an accident while putting her granddaughter Chloe on a railing in front of a glass window near the children’s water area on the 11th floor of a Royal Caribbean cruise at the time.

The glass window, thought to be a glass wall, was open, and the baby leaned toward the window and fell 35 meters outside.

At the time of the accident, the three generations were enjoying a Caribbean cruise together.

Puerto Rico prosecutors charged Anello for negligence three months after the accident, and Anello was arrested and imprisoned before being released on bail.

He initially pleaded not guilty, but pleaded guilty in October last year as a condition of avoiding jail time and receiving probation in the state of Indiana.

After the probation ruling, Anello said, “On the one hand, I am angry, but on the other hand I feel relieved. I comfort the fact that I do not have to go to jail, and that my family can end one period and move on to the next.

“There were no warning signs around,” he said, saying that he thought the railing where the accident occurred was made of a glass wall and that he had never thought that the windows could be open.

He said, “I miss my granddaughter very much,” and said, “In the future, I will put my family’s energy into a lawsuit for damages against the Zen Master.”

Parents of babies Alan Wigand and Kimberly have filed a civil lawsuit claiming responsibility for their daughter’s death, claiming that the cruise ship’s Royal Caribbean’s safety standards were compromised.

However, the Zen Master denies responsibility, saying, “Anello couldn’t have known that the window was open. The baby’s death was just a tragic accident.”
