Bitcoin soared to $45,000 after news that Tesla, led by Elon Musk’s CEO, had bought $1.5 billion worth of Bitcoin (about 1,681.5 billion won) worth of Bitcoin.

Tesla said it will use Bitcoin as a payment method for vehicle sales. This is another big boon for cryptocurrency (virtual currency), the US’ Bloomberg News reported on the 8th (local time).

Tesla’s acceptance of bitcoin is expected to give wings to bitcoin, which has become a mainstream asset in recent years, despite some skepticism.

This is in line with the unrivaled image of CEO Musk, who overturned the old-fashioned automobile industry with electric cars and added it to the Standard & Poor’s (S&P 500) index last year, a blue chip meeting, and caused a shift in the stock market.

According to data submitted by Tesla to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on the 8th, Tesla bought $1.5 billion worth of Bitcoin.

Tesla said, “We bought bitcoin to maximize cash return and secure flexibility. There is a possibility that some of the company’s capital will be invested in cryptocurrency in the future.” Tesla added that it will add bitcoin payment as a payment method when purchasing its products.

With this news, the global bitcoin market is skyrocketing. On the global cryptocurrency market relay site’CoinMarketCap’, bitcoin is recording $44,484, a 16.04% increase from 24 hours before 7am (Korean time) on the 9th.

Musk said, “I should have bought bitcoin 8 years ago” at the social media clubhouse on the 1st. At the time, he insisted, “I think Bitcoin is a good thing at this point,” and “I am a supporter of Bitcoin.”

In a Twitter conversation with cryptocurrency expert Michael Sailor, he even inquired about converting Tesla balance sheet transactions to Bitcoin.

Musk is a bitcoin enthusiast enough to delete his Twitter account on the 29th of last month and write’#bitcoin’.

Musk’s move is a huge boon after Bitcoin’s Chicago Merchandise Exchange (CME) futures trading and institutional investors’ entry into the market, cryptocurrency experts are saying.
