South Africa, which announced the suspension of AstraZeneca’s new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) vaccination, first decided on a’step-by-step’ vaccination that precisely measures the effectiveness of small personnel, AFP and Reuters reported.
Salim Abdul Karim, co-chairman of the Corona 19 Advisory Committee of the Republic of South Africa’s government, said on the day that “AstraZeneca vaccination will be carried out in stages to evaluate the effect of preventing serious diseases.”
First, the AstraZeneca vaccination for the whole country will be stopped, and the effect of preventing severe corona and death, which requires hospitalization for approximately 100,000 people, is a policy.
Earlier, South Africa announced that it would postpone the vaccination the previous day, according to the results of a study that the AstraZeneca vaccine is less effective in preventing the local mutant mild disease. However, AFP said the sudden decision to stop caused criticism as it disrupted vaccination plans.
Chairman Karim explained why the decision was reversed, saying, “It is still too early to judge the effect of the AstraZeneca vaccine on preventing serious diseases.”
Meanwhile, regarding concerns about disruptions to vaccination plans, Chairman Karim added that the US Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine is expected to arrive next week.
According to the international statistics website World Omometer, the cumulative number of corona 19 confirmed cases in South Africa as of this day was 1.76,135, and the cumulative number of deaths was 46,290. South Africa is particularly suffering from the spread of highly contagious mutations.
