[아시아경제 김봉주 기자] Because of her husband, a British Australian scholar who had been protecting her husband by serving as a spy in Iran as a spy came back to Korea and filed a divorce lawsuit after finding out about her husband’s affair.

On the 7th (local time), foreign media such as The Times and Daily Mail reported that Dr. Kylie Moore-Gilbert, 33, of the University of Melbourne, Australia, filed a divorce lawsuit against Russian-Israeli husband Ruslan Hodrov, 31. Dr. Moore-Gilbert is an expert in Middle East politics, cousin of Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks.

The two married in 2017, 10 years later due to a relationship they met in Israel in 2007. According to the will of the Jewish husband, the wedding ceremony was held as a traditional Jewish ceremony.

However, Dr. Moore-Gilbert was arrested by local authorities at Tehran airport after attending a seminar held in Iran’s holy land Qom in September 2018. Iranian authorities believed that her husband Hodrov was an Israeli spy, and Dr. Moore-Gilbert was arrested on the same charges. Later, Moore-Gilbert was sentenced to 10 years in prison at trial.

Dr. Moore-Gilbert reportedly defended her husband even after his detention in a way that strongly resisted attempts by Iran to lure him into the country.

However, it was presumed that her husband Hodrov committed an affair under the care of his wife. According to local media, nearby acquaintances testified that her husband, Hodorov, developed into a romantic relationship with Professor Kyle Baxter, 41, who was his wife’s doctoral supervisor about a year after his wife was imprisoned in Iran.

Moore-Gilbert was released in 2012 in exchange for three Iranians who were arrested for plotting a bombing in Thailand. After 804 days of imprisonment in Iran last November, After being released, Dr. Moore-Gilbert appears to have decided to divorce after being disappointed by her husband’s affair.

A spokesman for the University of Melbourne said to the local media, “I will not comment on the doctor’s private life. The priority is the health of Dr. Moore-Gilbert. I look forward to returning to college when he is ready.”
