The Ministry of Environment announced on the 7th that it will promote a’smart ecological factory construction project’ worth 30.3 billion won this year to support the green transformation of manufacturing factories with a large proportion of pollutant sources into eco-friendly and low-carbon manufacturing plants.
Since last year, the government has been promoting the establishment of a smart ecological factory in order to’build a green industry innovation ecosystem’, which is one of the three major green new deal areas. ▲ Green transformation of urban, space, and living infrastructure ▲ Low-carbon, decentralized energy expansion ▲ Green industry innovation ecosystem construction.
In particular, this project is meaningful in establishing a leading model (model) of an eco-friendly manufacturing plant by integrating support for improvement of low-carbon facilities such as reducing pollutant emissions, reducing greenhouse gases, improving resource and energy efficiency, and introducing smart facilities.
The Ministry of Environment selected 11 companies last year to conduct leading projects. It plans to select and support a total of 100 companies over three years, including 30 companies this year and 59 companies next year.
An official from the Ministry of Environment explained, “This year, we plan to focus on selecting and supporting companies that are pursuing comprehensive improvements such as reducing pollutant emissions, as well as using water circulation and reducing greenhouse gas,”
Selected companies this year can receive government funding of up to KRW 1 billion, up to 60% of the investment cost of building eco-friendly and low-carbon facilities.
If the selected company applies for the’Clean Factory’ project by the Ministry of Industry and the’Smart Factory’ project by the Ministry of Small and Medium Venture Businesses, it is possible to receive additional support for related improvement projects such as facility improvement and smart facilities for efficient production process after examination.
The Ministry of Environment will announce the selection of a smart ecological factory building project support company from the 8th to the 16th of the following month for small and medium-sized companies that own manufacturing plants. After that, a total of 30 companies will be selected through prior written evaluation, on-site confirmation, presentation evaluation, and final selection evaluation.

Companies wishing to participate in this project can fill out a project application form and apply by mail or in person to the entrusted management agency, Korea Environment Corporation, by the 16th of the following month.
