Revision of Korean Industrial Standards… Standard size expanded from 82 types to 95 types
The standard dimensions of H-beam, a key material for construction sites, will be expanded.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the National Institute of Technology and Standards, announced on the 7th that it will announce the revision of the Korean Industrial Standard, which expands the standard dimensions of H-beams from 82 to 95.
H-beam is a core steel material for building structures with an annual domestic production of about 3.2 million tons and a market size of about 2.4 trillion won.
With this revision, eight large-sized dimensions, which have been lacking in standard dimensions compared to small and medium-sized dimensions, will be added, and five 400 mm-class dimensions with the highest utilization will be added.
The government and the industry expected that the expansion of the H-beam standard dimensions would reduce construction costs in the construction industry.
H-beams have the advantage of superior seismic performance and short construction period compared to other construction materials, but their design inefficiency due to their limited dimensions was considered an obstacle to market expansion.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Industry and Industry prepared a plan to expand the standard dimensions through expert review meetings, industry briefing sessions, and inter-industry coordination, and confirmed by a resolution by the Korean Industrial Standards Metal Technology Council.
An official from the Ministry of Industry said, “If the H-beam to be reflected in the design is not the KS standard dimension, unnecessary costs were incurred because the KS standard dimension of the closest higher standard was used.” While securing safety, economical optimal design has become possible.”
In particular, he added that it is meaningful that the large size was expanded to meet the changes in the building industry that is becoming skyscraper and large, and that the choice of options was expanded by expanding the 400 mm class size with high utilization.
