Lee Rae-jin, the elder brother of a public official who disappeared in the west sea and died in a North Korean gunfire, met with the Unification Minister Lee In-young on the 4th and delivered a letter to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
Lee said, “I asked the Ministry of Unification to deliver a letter to Chairman Kim Jong-un,” he said after meeting with Minister Lee at the Government Complex in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
Lee also arranged for an interview with the North Korean authorities to the Ministry of Unification and demanded efforts to prevent recurrence and joint investigations between the two Koreas. At the same time, he also requested to ensure personal safety in the event of a successful visit to North Korea.
Mr. Lee said, “Even though the efforts to prevent recurrence have been confirmed, we have been told that discussions are possible only when North Korea responds to meetings with North Korean officials, site visits, and joint investigations.”
He added, “As it is a matter of life rather than conflict of interest, joint inter-Korean investigation or investigation through the United Nations is necessary.”
The interview was conducted on the 20th of last month when Mr. Lee requested to meet with relevant government officials such as the Blue House and the Ministry of Unification and Defense to investigate the truth of the case, and the interview process was conducted privately.
Mr. Lee previously met with Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-hwa and Defense Minister Seo-wook.
In addition, last month, a lawsuit was filed against the Blue House, the Ministry of Defense, and the Maritime Police Agency, which refused to disclose information requested by Lee last year.
