New Coronavirus Infection (Corona 19) A confirmed patient of a mutant virus originating in the UK was found to have remained positive even after 20 days after being tested positive, causing an emergency to the quarantine authorities. Existing viruses change to negative 10 days after confirmation, but mutant viruses appear to have a much stronger persistence.

According to Jeonnam Province on the 4th, four Syrians living in Naju who were confirmed to have a mutant virus originating in the UK were diagnosed as positive in a diagnostic test conducted the day before. Of the parents and children, two children were negative, but both the couples remained positive. They were quarantined and treated at the Naju Life Treatment Center after being confirmed for Corona 19 on the 10th of last month. It was recently confirmed as a mutant virus from the UK, and the diagnostic test was conducted again, but the couple were still found to be positive. Existing Corona 19 virus disappears as the virus activity decreases 10 days after it is confirmed, and the diagnostic test also shows negative. However, these couples were still positive even after 23 days of being confirmed. An official from Jeonnam Province explained, “It is a very unusual case in Korea where the mutant virus itself is rare.”

Accordingly, Jeonnam-do is planning to focus on blocking the spread of mutant viruses. Containment standards are more strictly applied to about 70 confirmed patients and 20 management personnel in the Naju Life Center. In addition, diagnostic tests of 220 domestic and foreign people who have contacted these Syrians are also conducted again. Of these, 192 were negative and the rest are conducting diagnostic tests. 42 Syrians living in Naju and 17 Syrians living in other cities and counties in Tokyo were negative. Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok requested that foreigners be required to undergo diagnostic tests before self-isolation is lifted at a meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters. Governor Kim emphasized, “For foreigners who have been diagnosed as being positive, quarantine will be lifted without testing after 10 days, but there is great public anxiety about the mutant virus, so in the future, diagnostic tests should be made mandatory at the government level.

As of 10 a.m. on the 4th, the cumulative corona19 confirmed in Jeollanam-do has increased to 761 with two additions the day before. Of these, 696 are community infections.
