[사회]Leading offender for manipulating stock prices of’Lime Fund’ investment companies, 12 years imprisonment and a fine of 180 billion won

The main culprit for manipulating the stock price of a KOSDAQ listed company, where Lime Fund funds were invested, was sentenced to 12 years in prison and a fine of 180 billion won in the first trial.

The judges pointed out that the stock market undermined confidence and that the damage was inflicted on the public.

The main culprit for manipulating the stock price that fooled investors as if there were good benefits to the company that had acquired a zero-capital merger was sentenced to medium punishment.

The Seoul Southern District Court sentenced Lee Mo, who was charged with violating the Capital Markets Act, to 12 years in prison and a fine of 184 billion won.

Seven people per day were also sentenced to imprisonment and two were sentenced to probation.

The judges explained the reasons for the sentence, saying they undermined confidence in the stock market, causing healthy ordinary investors to flee the market, and that the damage was inflicted on the public.

Mr. Lee and others are accused of taking 8.3 billion won in unfair profit by tricking them into manipulating stock prices as if they were receiving large-scale investments in 2017.

In addition, it was investigated that foreign politicians and entrepreneurs were invited to manipulate stock prices to hold an agreement ceremony that did not make much sense, and to distribute false press releases as if they were jointly developing technology with overseas organizations.

As a result, investors flocked to what was considered a good news, and the company’s stock price nearly doubled in the eight months designated as the offense.

Lime Asset Management, which incurred KRW 1.6 trillion in damage due to the suspension of large-scale fund repurchases, also bought more than KRW 10 billion in convertible bonds.

Eventually, the prosecutors who were investigating the Lime Fund crisis caught the tail of the stock price manipulation party.
