As a zoo in Daegu became difficult to operate due to Corona 19, suspicion was raised that it closed its doors and left animals unattended.

Resident A is the person who managed the zoo left on the hillside.

He says he has been here for 10 months to take care of the animals.

When I first found it, there were four horses, but when I looked inside, there were other animals.

Camels, goats, raccoons, monkeys, rabbits, and geese were living in harsh conditions.

The animals seemed hungry for a long time, and their bodies and surroundings were covered in dirt.

Electricity and water were cut off.

Mr. A started taking care of animals with his family.

They carried water and food from the bottom of the mountain to feed the animals.

The old and dirty barns were cleaned and constructed to keep the wind away.

Today (3rd), the animal relief organization Beagle Rescue Network (Non-going Association) announced that it is carrying out rescue activities with Mr. A’s family.

It was reported that the zoo left the animals unattended and did not provide adequate water and feed, and even received reports that they were killed by hanging their necks.

“I went to the site yesterday to check the condition of the animals, but most of them weren’t good,” said Yoo Young-jae, CEO of the Bhigok Hyup, in a phone call with JTBC.

According to the city of Daegu, this zoo has been open and closed since February of last year.

Some animals were moved to other facilities, but large animals such as camels and horses remained in the zoo.

Daegu City is conducting an investigation in this regard.

An official from Daegu City told JTBC, “It is true that the internal environment is bad. However, the zoo said that it managed it, so I will check it in detail.”

He said, “I will check the health status of animals with animal experts such as veterinarians this afternoon.”
