Eco-friendly business such as Cheongju·Daegu energy improvement work
[투데이에너지 류희선 기자] Korea District Heating Corporation (CEO Hwang Chang-hwa) announced that it will continue to promote a low-carbon, eco-friendly collective energy project to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and zero carbon emissions in line with the government’s 2050 carbon neutral, Korean New Deal policy.
Hannan is currently carrying out’external projects for converting heating methods’ and eco-friendly energy improvement projects in Cheongju-Daegu, along with the operation of Dongtan fuel cell power generation facilities, urban regeneration projects such as Taebaek coal mine regeneration, and the establishment of the Hannan Green New Deal Grand Plan.
The’External Project for Conversion of Heating Method’, which is being promoted for 6 apartment houses (located in Seoul and the metropolitan area), is a carbon source for greenhouse gases (37% based on the metropolitan area) that are reduced as apartment houses switch the heating method from central heating to district heating. As a project that is recognized for emission rights, it is expected to contribute to the prevention of global warming due to reduction of greenhouse gases and improvement of air quality, as well as to secure about 43,000 tons of carbon emission rights, and to share revenue worth about 1.7 billion won with apartment houses .
In addition, Hannan is promoting eco-friendly energy improvement projects that use eco-friendly fuels and introduce high-efficiency facilities at collective energy facilities in Cheongju and Daegu, and recently held an environmental impact assessment report for residents.
The Cheongju eco-friendly energy improvement project reduces nitrogen oxide emissions by 71% and air pollutants (sulfur oxide, dust, etc.) by 74% on an annual basis. In the case of Daegu, the annual air pollutant emissions decreased by 67%, and as a result of the analysis of the impact on surrounding areas after construction, nitrogen oxides decreased by up to 91% and fine dust by up to 96%.
Hannan received the prestigious presidential citation at the ‘2020 Korea Energy Awards’ in recognition of its continuous discovery of eco-friendly collective energy projects to reduce carbon and GHG emissions and promotion of new and renewable energy projects in line with government policies.
In addition, it was selected as an excellent company in responding to climate change for 5 consecutive years at the 2019 CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) Climate Change Response and Water Management Excellent Company Awards Ceremony.
In addition, Hannan held the ‘2020 Collective Energy Conference’ in November last year to discuss the role and future of collective energy in the era of the Green New Deal, and last month disclosed outstanding research results in the field of collective energy through Hannan’s official YouTube channel.
An official of Hannan said, “As the nation’s largest collective energy company, Hannan will continue to focus on promoting eco-friendly collective energy projects to reduce low carbon and greenhouse gases.”
