[앵커]

During the month of January, individual investors bought close to 26 trillion won (40% of last year) in domestic stocks, continuing the’Donghak Ant’ fever.

In particular, Samsung Electronics bought over 10 trillion won, surpassing last year’s net purchase in one month.

However, as KOSPI received a major correction last week, the’debt investment’ to buy stocks out of debt has stalled.

According to the Korea Exchange, in January, all individuals net bought 25.85 trillion won.

Individuals net purchases of KRW 22,3338 trillion and KRW 3,5165 billion of KOSDAQ, achieving 40% of the amount of KRW 63.8 trillion that individuals purchased last year from KOSPI and KOSDAQ in just one month.

The purchase of individual investors focused on the large-cap KOSPI, mainly in the semiconductor and automobile industries.

Individuals, in particular, net purchase of Samsung Electronics’ stocks of 10,1563 billion won, exceeding the annual net purchase amount of 9,5951 billion won last year in one month.

In terms of quantity, institutions and foreigners net sold 66.46 million shares and 53.93 million shares, respectively, and individuals bought 11,673 million shares, and absorbed almost all of them.

Other high-ranking individual net purchases are large stocks, Hyundai Mobis (KRW 1.66 trillion), Hyundai Motors (KRW 940.1 billion), SK Hynix (KRW 9188 billion), and Kia Motors (KRW 8179 billion).

Meanwhile, last week when the KOSPI plummeted, so-called’debt investment’, which individuals buy stocks out of debt, also slowed down.

According to the Financial Investment Association, the balance of credit loans for individual investors as of the 28th was 21,244.4 billion won, a decrease of 388.8 billion won from the 25th.

Credit loan balance is the amount that individual investors borrow from securities companies to invest in stocks.

The big credit loan balance last week was that after the KOSPI broke the 3,200 level, it fell below the 3,000 level for 4 consecutive trading days, which led to a decline in investment sentiment, and major securities companies were successively halting credit loans to manage their credit loan limit. It is interpreted as a group.
