Hong Moon-jong (66), head of the pro-Park Shin Party, was sentenced to imprisonment after being convicted of embezzlement of 5 billion won and bribery at the first trial.
The 21st Division of the Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Agreement (President Judge Kim Mi-ri) sentenced to 3 years in prison for embezzlement, violation of the criminal proceeds concealment regulation law, and one year in prison for bribery under the aggravated punishment law of CEO Hong for certain economic crimes. Each sentenced.
The judge said, “There is no fear of fleeing and we are not detained in court to give an opportunity to argue through appeal.”
The judiciary admitted guilty to charges of receiving a luxury vehicle from an IT company official from June 2013, when Hong was a member of the National Assembly’s Future Creation Broadcasting and Communication Commission, from June 2013 to September of the following year. However, it was considered that the amount of bribery could not be calculated, and only the crimes of bribery under the criminal law were admitted instead of bribery under the Weighted Penalty Act for certain crimes.
In 2012, while serving as the chairman and president of the Kyungmin Academy, a private school foundation, he was charged with spending 2.4 billion won in teaching expenses in the name of selling and selling calligraphy and painting. The charges of moving out were also found guilty.
However, the charges of receiving 30 million won from the IT officials, including the public diagnosis team and cash, and other charges of embezzlement and dismissal were found innocent because the charges were not sufficiently proven.
The prosecution applied the charges of embezzlement and abandonment of 7.5 billion won and bribery of 82 million won to CEO Hong, and the court convicted of embezzlement of 5.7 billion won and bribery that cannot be calculated.
The judge pointed out that “the school and school property that should only be used for the specified purpose was transferred like personal property,” and pointed out, “It should be seen that the damage has been intact to students who paid tuition in anticipation of quality education.”
