Justice Party lawmaker Jang Hye-young appeared on KBS’News 9’on the 30th and revealed his thoughts regarding the sexual harassment case of former CEO Kim Jong-cheol. Rep. Jang said, “I think it would be okay to see it as such a declaration (to return to normal)” and “I wanted to say thank you for your worries, support, and comfort.” “I decided that there was no way to solve the problem of (sexual harassment) in a non-public manner. No matter how much I thought about how to solve the problem of sexual harassment committed by the representative of the public party, I couldn’t imagine it.” I explained the background in which the case was made public. He added, “Since he is a victim of one person and a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, he did not see a clear path to fulfill his vocation as a member of the National Assembly while hiding himself as a victim.” Rep. Chang also said, “The more publicly known sexual violence incidents, the more the discussion focuses on how to prevent these problems and prevent them from happening again, but rather than the focus of discussion,’What happened?’ “Is it a victim?” he said. “That is why I wanted to say that we should pay attention to where the perpetrators fail.” This is an explanation of the point that Congressman Jang said in his position,’Why do even men who seem to be so miserable in treating the woman in front of them as equally dignified beings?’ Rep. Jang said, “Many people think that the victim is determined to be a victim, and that the perpetrator is the only one who commits the harassment, and some people are not the ones who will, but that is a prejudice that we have about sexual violence. I do” he added. Regarding the reason for not suing former CEO Kim, he said, “Some people agree with that view, knowing that when considering their responsibilities as a public figure, it is the duty to clearly prosecute the perpetrator and take legal responsibility.” “On the way to restore everyday life, the various pains that proceeding with criminal charges will bring, the secondary abuses and various interests to be poured out, the procedures that require endless damages to be clarified and explained, and the pain that must be experienced in the course of the trial “I didn’t want to go through the criminal charges because I didn’t want to go through it.” Regarding the civic group that accused former CEO Kim, regardless of the intention of Rep. Jang, “If it is said that (the accusation is made) without respecting the will of the victim, could it be a genuine effort to eliminate sex crimes while respecting the victims?” He pointed out, “I want to express my regret for the actions that did not respect the intention.” By Jeong Hwan-bong, staff reporter [email protected]
