3 million units sold in the fourth quarter of last year, a 35% drop from the previous quarter
China’s smartphone market is also sluggish…”Possibilities of inventory buildup”

[초이스경제 홍인표 기자] Huawei, a Chinese telecommunications company, is facing the worst crisis in the mobile phone business.
According to the economic magazine China Sangbo on the 29th, as a result of a count point survey by a mobile phone market research institute, the global market sales of Huawei smartphones in the fourth quarter of last year reached only 33 million units. It was ranked 6th with 8% of the global market share. Compared to the third quarter of last year, smartphone sales decreased by 35%.
Another market research firm IDC announced that Huawei sold 32.3 million smartphones in the fourth quarter of last year, ranking only 5th in the world. Market research firm Canellis classified Huawei as’other’ and did not even disclose specific smartphone sales results. This means that sales were sluggish.
Huawei’s smartphone sales are also sluggish in the Chinese market. Market research institute Cyno said that Huawei ranked first in the Chinese smartphone market in the fourth quarter of last year, but its market share fell sharply to only 26%.
Analyst Ligang Saino noted that mobile phone sales are slower than changes in shipments. “You can see that Huawei’s smartphone inventory is accumulating.”
Huawei beat Samsung Electronics in the second quarter of last year and ranked first in the world for smartphones, but has been showing a sharp decline since the third quarter.
The industry reports that Huawei’s sluggish smartphone sales are directly related to US sanctions. The U.S. government has blacklisted Huawei to prevent U.S. companies from selling core components and software.
Huawei is also feeling a sense of crisis. Huawei’s consumer affairs president Yu Cheong-dong said in October last year that “Huawei is facing a very difficult time.”
