In May 2019, at the time, Trump’s U.S. administration blacklisted Huawei, China, with “national security”.

By saying that Huawei equipment could be used for spying by Chinese authorities, it blocked access to key components and software for US companies.

Huawei, which was unable to use Google’s Android operating system, was hit directly by the smartphone business.

In the fourth quarter of last year, global smartphone sales amounted to 33 million units, down 41% compared to the same period last year, and the market share was only 8%.

Sales in the Chinese market also decreased by more than 40% compared to the previous year, pushing the ranking of global smartphone sales to 6th.

Compared to the world’s No. 1 ranking with 55.8 million units sold in the second quarter of last year, it is literally ‘Just below the level’. It was a huge blow.

In the midst of this, the new US Biden administration is also showing its will to continue pressure on Huawei.

<젠사키 / 미국 백악관 대변인(지난 26일)> “We need to hold accountability for China’s unfair and illegal practices and ensure that US technology is not used to promote China’s military buildup.”

Reuters reported that Huawei was considering the sale of flagship brands’P’ and’Mate’ following the sale of the mid-to-low-end smartphone brand’Honour’ in November last year.

Huawei once denied plans to sell the brand.

In the meantime, Chinese media pointed out that Huawei should be more prepared for pressure from the Biden government.
