[사회]Provisional agreement between labor and management right before general strike…

[앵커]

The nationwide courier union has temporarily put a hold on the general strike scheduled from the morning of today (29th).

This is because last night (28th), the labor and the government came up with a provisional agreement after a long meeting.

The union is going to vote and ask the members of the union to decide whether to strike.

The courier union put the strike on hold? Please tell me more details.

[기자]

That’s right. The courier union announced that it had come up with a provisional agreement between the courier labor and management at around 10 o’clock last night (28th) one day before the general strike.

This is the result after a 6-hour’marathon meeting’ with the courier and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport at the National Assembly.

What the content of the new settlement will be is not disclosed.

The union plans to hold a vote for members from 10 a.m. a little later on whether to accept the agreement at 7 locations across the country including the Seoul Complex Logistics Center.

If the agreement is accepted, the union will withdraw from the general strike that it intends to enter from today. If not, the strike will start indefinitely as scheduled.

Results are expected to come around 11am today.

Earlier, on the 21st, labor and government in the courier industry gathered and announced the first agreement to prevent overwork of courier workers.

However, on the 27th, six days after the agreement, the union declared that the couriers had broken the agreement and declared that 5,500 members of the union would go on a general strike indefinitely from today.

The management decided to add additional personnel to the parcel sorting process, but there was a conflict over the size and timing of delivery.

The courier companies say that the sorting workforce specified in the agreement is 6,000, and they cannot add more sorting workforce before Lunar New Year.

On the other hand, the labor union insisted that Lotte and Hanjin Courier, in particular, require one classifier for every two drivers, so actually more manpower is needed.

As the party government reached a tentative agreement again after negotiating under water, it is noteworthy whether the courier union will continue to strike.

Yes, as the results have not yet come out, there is still the possibility of a strike. Is there a possibility that there may be a courier disruption during the Lunar New Year holidays?

[기자]

Yes, if the union goes on strike, there are about 5,500 courier drivers participating.

However, considering there are about 50,000 courier drivers nationwide, it is around 11%.

Since the management also puts additional manpower into the pre-holiday sorting process, it is predicted that there will be no’offset’ even if it goes on strike.

However, as the number of courier drivers who do not participate in the strike increases, delivery may be delayed in some regions, which may lead to disruptions.

Of course, there is still a possibility that the union will accept the agreement and withdraw the strike.

As the labor and management found the contact point last night, it is known that there is a high possibility that the provisional agreement will be approved until now.
