The KFA held a general meeting of delegates at the soccer center in the Seoul newspaper on the 27th and released a new executive team. 22 executives, including 6 vice presidents, 5 subcommittee chairs, and 11 board members, and 2 auditors were appointed, and they made drastic changes such as including female executives for the first time in history.
The most notable person is the former announcer Shin A-young (34), a broadcaster who joined the board. Shin, who is widely known as a financial resource from Harvard University, enjoyed great popularity as a sports announcer. Since joining SBS ESPN in 2011, he has been called the’football goddess’ by conducting the’EPL Review’ to deliver the news of the English Premier League. Shin, who is also known as an avid fan of EPL’s prestigious Arsenal, has been actively participating in football-related events, such as hosting a press conference for the president of the International Football Federation (FIFA) Gianni Infantino even after the pre-declaration in 2014.
Regarding the background of the new director’s appointment, an official from the association said, “I know that the affection and related knowledge I have accumulated since I was deeply immersed in soccer while studying in the United States are as good as experts. Working as a broadcaster, he also considered his expertise in the media sector. We look forward to serving you with a new perspective on the board.”
Ewha Womans University professor Hong Eun-ah (41), who was elected as vice-chairman, was also selected for reform of the football association. This is the first time that a woman has been vice-chairman of KFA. He will lead the women’s football and referee administration in the future.
Vice-Chairman Hong obtained the qualification of a FIFA International Referee in January 2003, when he was enrolled in the Department of Physical Education at Ewha Womans University, at the age of 23, the youngest Korean. Since then, he has built up his career as a referee at major international competitions such as the World Youth Championships (predecessor to the U-17 and U-20 World Cups), the Asian Games, and the Olympics. He served as the first non-British referee in the 2010 England Football Association Women’s FA Cup, and in the same year as the U-20 Women’s World Cup opening match referee, again setting the first Korean record. He received a doctorate in sports policy from Loughborough University in England, and served as a professor at his alma mater’s School of Physical Education and was also a FIFA referee instructor.
