It is reported that the labor and management of Samsung SDI did not agree on the location of the labor union office in the last 11 negotiations, the scope of the union members, the welfare benefits of the collective agreement, and the provisions related to occupational safety and health. The union side declared that negotiations were broken on the same day after the 3rd main negotiations on the 27th, saying, “No further negotiations are meaningless.”
According to the union side, the management has maintained its position to open an office outside the company despite the union’s demands. In addition, the management continued to view that it is difficult to join the union because the’class manager’, the front line manager, has personnel rights. The union side said, “The labor-management council has three offices in the company, but it is difficult to accept the management’s position that the union office cannot be located in the company.” It does not guarantee three labor rights,” he argued.
Both labor and management had a conflict with regard to welfare benefits. The union side said, “The management did not accept the union’s demand for welfare benefits, and asked to put only the contents of the employment rules into the agreement, but if the employment rules were changed, they rejected it because they had to proceed through the labor-management council.” Regarding occupational safety and health, the union said, “The company asked for the contents of the law to be specified (in the collective agreement), but refused.”
The union plans to apply to the Central Labor Commission for mediation of labor disputes within next week. The middle labor union listens to the opinions of both labor and management and attempts mediation, and if a decision to’suspend’ is made in this mediation, the union can obtain a legitimate right to dispute (strike). In addition, the union plans to share the status of labor-management negotiations with Samsung SDI Ulsan and propose a solidarity struggle at the’Samsung Group Companies Labor Union Solidarity Conference’ scheduled on the 29th.
Earlier on the 14th, Samsung Display’s labor and management signed a collective labor-management agreement for the first time as an electronic subsidiary after Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong announced in May of last year that “no union management was abolished.” The union was launched in February of last year, and the first collective agreement was born after 7 months of negotiations after the first meeting of labor and management was signed in May.
However, it is known that labor-management collective bargaining with electronic affiliates such as Samsung Electronics and Samsung SDI is causing difficulties. It is understood that both labor and management of each company are showing different opinions in the details of negotiations.
Meanwhile, Samsung SDI announced that it recorded 2462 billion won in operating profit and 3,251.4 billion won in sales in the fourth quarter of last year through the disclosure. Operating profit increased by 1124.9% (226.1 billion won) and sales by 15.3% (4305 billion won) compared to the previous year. This is Samsung SDI’s fourth quarter sales record. Samsung SDI surpassed 11 trillion won in annual sales for the first time thanks to the strong performance in the fourth quarter.
