(Jeonju = Yonhap News) Reporter Eun-kyung Kim = Environment Minister Hanjeong-ae visited the site of the zero-pollution vehicle supply project, the representative Korean version of the New Deal, on the morning of the 28th as his first on-site move after taking office.
The site visited by Minister Han is the Hyundai Motor Company’s Jeonju plant in Wanju-gun, Jeollabuk-do, and the nearby Wanju hydrogen charging station.
The Hyundai Motor Company Jeonju Plant is the world’s largest electric and hydrogen commercial vehicle plant that produces electric and hydrogen buses.
The Wanju hydrogen charging station is a place where all hydrogen cars (passenger and commercial) produced in Korea can be charged and is the largest in Korea.
Minister Han Jeong-ae inspected the hydrogen car production facilities and encouraged officials, and requested that we do our best to supply vehicles in a timely manner to achieve 300,000 pollution-free vehicles this year.
Particularly, when listening to an explanation from the official while looking around the production site of hydrogen buses, he showed a deep interest in the site situation, such as asking where the hydrogen tank manufacturer was.
At the Wanju hydrogen charging station, the hydrogen car was charged directly with the help of the official.
The Ministry of Environment plans to supply 300,000 non-polluting vehicles (including two-wheeled vehicles) such as electric and hydrogen vehicles by the end of this year to accelerate carbon neutrality in the transportation sector.
As of the end of last year, a total of 179,000 non-polluting vehicles including two-wheeled vehicles were supplied, and an additional 136,000,185 vehicles are expected to be supplied this year.
Hyundai Motor Company plans to supply 300 low-floor hydrogen electric buses and 440 electric buses this year, and 1,600 large-sized hydrogen electric trucks to H2 Energy in Switzerland by 2025.
Minister Han Jeong-ae said, “The world is making every effort to lead the era of pollution-free cars, which has already become a reality.” Please concentrate on your capabilities,” he said.
Minister Han also said, “To preoccupy not only the Korean market, but also the global market, the role of the government will be great.”
