Samsung Display’s OLED that uses less electricity

Samsung Display's'OLED that uses less electricity'

Samsung Display announced on the 26th that it has developed an OLED (organic light emitting diode) panel (photo) for smartphones that reduces power consumption by more than 16% compared to existing products. This product will enter the Galaxy 21 Ultra, which will be officially released on the 29th.

OLED expresses color using organic light-emitting materials that emit light when current flows without a separate light source. The efficiency of organic light-emitting materials has a great influence on the power consumption and brightness of the display, and outdoor visibility (shape and color recognizable properties). Samsung Display increased the luminous efficiency by increasing the movement speed of electrons in the organic material layer. It is now possible to emit brighter light with less energy than before.

Samsung Display has strengthened cooperation with global material companies over the past 10 years to secure super-divided competitiveness in organic light emitting material technology. The recruitment of professional personnel has also increased. In addition, over the past three years, it has applied for more than 370 OLED organic material related patents in Korea, the United States, China, Japan, and Europe each year. As of last year, the cumulative number of patents held is more than 5,000.

Ji-ho Baek, head of small and medium-sized strategic marketing division at Samsung Display (Vice President) said, “The demand for technology to reduce power consumption is growing. We will contribute to improving the performance of new products of our customers based on the industry’s best material technology.”
