While Hyundai Motor Group was contemplating the construction of a new Global Business Center (GBC) in Samsung-dong, Seoul, Gangnam-gu demanded the maintenance of the original bill.

Gangnam-gu mayor Jeong Soon-gyun said on Facebook on the 25th, “GBC is a large project that contains not only the meaning as a landmark building, but also the creation of 1.25 million jobs and an economic effect of 268 trillion won. “We made an official request for a meeting with Hyundai Motor Company Chairman Eui-sun Eui-sun to urge the promotion of the floor plan.

It is known that Hyundai Motor Group is considering changing the design to two buildings with 70 floors or three buildings with 50 floors instead of the previous design plan for a 105-story tower. It was confirmed that Hyundai Motor Company replied to the inquiries of the Seoul City, which has a license right, “We are considering design changes internally, but they have not been confirmed yet. We will inform you if it is decided soon.”

Hyundai Motor Group, which purchased the former KEPCO site in Samseong-dong in 2014, was delayed due to controversy over military radar interference, and was only granted permission from the Seoul Metropolitan Government in May of last year, six years after the site was purchased. Public contributions amounting to KRW 1.74 trillion were also involved. The Hyundai Motor Group plans to attract external investors to relieve the burden of investment costs, which is estimated at 3.7 trillion won.

Changing the design to a 50-story scale can significantly reduce construction costs without interfering with military radar. The construction period is also drastically reduced, which will ease the burden on the Hyundai Motor Group. However, the residents of Gangnam-gu, who attempted to use the 105th floor GBC as a landmark, are protesting the movement of signing against the design change.

“It is absurd because there are rumors of design changes from last November, and media reports that it is being organized into three 50-story buildings this year is embarrassing.” I wrote. It is pointed out that the Hyundai Motor Group has been rumored to change the design and made it the default.

He insisted, “Super-sized projects such as GBC should be carried out according to the original plan, faithful to the promises made with Gangnam-gu residents.”
