It was found that Hyundai Motor Company has not even approached the vehicle of the Kona electric vehicle (EV) fire accident that occurred in Dalseo-gu, Daegu on the 23rd.

On the 25th, an official from Hyundai Motors explained, “It is a situation where the fire accident vehicle is not yet accessible internally,” and “After the police investigation direction is determined, the vehicle can be accessed by itself and the cause of the fire accident can be identified.”

According to some media reports, it is predicted that Hyundai Motor will announce the cause of the first fire accident in the Kona electric vehicle on the 25th. However, as the direction of the police investigation has not yet come out, the announcement of the investigation into the cause of Hyundai Motor’s accident is expected to take some time.

The Kona electric car occurred at a fast charging station in front of a taxi company in Dalseo-gu, Daegu at 4:11 pm on the 23rd. The fire accident occurred during charging, and after witnessing the fire accident by a passing citizen, it was found that the charger connected to the vehicle charging port was removed.

The Kona electric vehicle that had a fire accident was recalled last December, according to a fire investigation at the Daegu Dalseo Fire Station. Since October last year, Hyundai Motor Company started a recall to update the battery management system (BMS) to prevent fire accidents in Kona electric vehicles.

The number of Kona electric vehicle fire accidents known so far is 17 domestically and internationally.

The Automobile Safety Research Institute of the Transportation Safety Authority under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport continues to investigate the cause of the Kona electric vehicle fire accident that has been continuing since last year.
