Russia accused the US embassy and social media of intervening in Navalni protests

After the US supported the protests for the release of Alexei Navalni held across Russia over the weekend, the Russian government strongly opposed.

According to Reuters, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Liabkov said in an interview with Russian state news agency Ria Novosti on the 25th that “US Ambassador John Sullivan Zurer supported illegal protests in Russia.”

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Maria Zaharova also told RIA on the same day that “Russia is opposed to US diplomats supporting illegal assemblies in various cities.”

Separately, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an official statement saying, “The US social media giants such as Facebook have not taken the necessary steps to identify fake posts related to illegal protests.” Blamed.

On the 23rd, large-scale protests were held in about 60 cities across Russia, from Vladivostok in the east to St. Russian police extinguished the protests with clubs, and in the process, more than 3,000 people were arrested by the police.
