Should I go down the distance step… Government “to be decided during the week”

The government will soon decide whether or not to adjust the current’social distancing’ (Seoul Metropolitan Area 2.5 Stage, Non-Metropolitan Area Stage 2), which will end at the end of this month.

Sohn Young-rae, head of the Social Strategy Division, Central Accident Control Headquarters (Jung Soo-bon), said at a regular briefing held at the Seoul Government Complex on the 24th, “I will decide on a plan to adjust the distance in the future during next week.”

To prevent the re-proliferation of Corona 19, the government has extended and implemented quarantine measures, including the current distancing stage and banning private gatherings with more than 5 people nationwide until the 31st of this month.

“The current distancing steps, etc., are scheduled for next weekend, or Sunday. After that, we will begin discussions on the adjustment of the (quarantine) measures taken into account until the Lunar New Year holidays from next week,” said Son Young-rae.

Mr. Son continued, “At present, the opinions of local governments and related ministries, especially related ministries, have been listening to the opinions of related associations and organizations, small self-employed persons and small business owners, and discussions between central and local governments have begun.”

He added, “Along with these discussions, we are going to make decisions before next weekend, while reviewing together with experts and the Life Prevention Committee, but they have not yet been confirmed.”

Recently, the number of new confirmed cases of Corona 19 per day has entered a decline.

In the last week (1.18~24), with an average of 392.6 new cases per day, the number of confirmed regional cases, which is a key indicator to gauge the prevalence situation in the region, is 365.3 on average per day.

The number of confirmed local outbreaks went down to the second-stage range (over 300 people nationwide), out of the 2.5-stage standard of distance (over 400-500 nationwide or when doubling, etc.), for the first time after the third pandemic began in earnest.
