AstraZeneca vaccine supply to Europe is disrupted, authorities “no change in introduction in the first quarter”

Amid a disruption in the supply of vaccines for novel coronavirus infections (Corona 19) in Europe, the quarantine authorities said that the AstraZeneca vaccine was introduced in Korea in the first quarter of its plan.

On the 24th, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) responded to the question about whether there is any impact in Korea regarding the disruption in the initial supply of Corona 19 vaccine. There is no change.”

Korea has signed a vaccine purchase contract with AstraZeneca for 10 million people.

The quarantine authorities have announced that they plan to sequentially supply the quantity produced by SK Bioscience, AstraZeneca’s commissioned production facility, from February to March.

At present, in Europe, the possibility that AstraZeneca and Pfizer will not be able to supply the initial vaccine volume as contracted has been raised, leading to resistance from countries.

AstraZeneca plans to supply 80 million doses of vaccine to 27 countries in Europe by the first quarter of this year, but the actual supply is expected to decrease by about 60%.

AstraZeneca reportedly explained that the vaccine had to be adjusted for mutant viruses from the UK, South Africa and Brazil, and that a fire at a production facility in India had disrupted supply.
