SK, intensive execution of advanced materials, green, bio, and digital businesses… Investment portfolio reorganization

SK Co., Ltd. will focus on four core businesses this year: advanced materials, green, bio, and digital. With this year as the first year of implementation of the four core businesses, the company plans to accelerate its evolution into a holding company specialized in SK Group investment.

SK announced on the 24th that it will reorganize its investment portfolio to focus on advanced materials, green, bio, and digital, and change the names of the existing investment 1~3 centers and 1 Cube centers to advanced materials, green, bio, and digital investment centers.

The Advanced Materials Investment Center is in charge of the semiconductor and battery material business. Previously, SK laid the foundation for semiconductor material business such as SK Siltron and SK Materials, and expanded its business area to copper foil, a core component of electric vehicle batteries. The Advanced Materials Investment Center plans to reinforce its portfolio of high-value-added high-tech materials by hiring doctoral-level experts in chemistry and new materials and polymers, and investing in core technology companies.

The Green Investment Center plans to promote eco-friendly energy solution projects such as new and renewable energy and energy saving business models. In addition, the sustainable alternative food business, recycling, and carbon dioxide capture and utilization areas will be developed and projects for new technologies.

The Bio Investment Center plans to secure business capabilities ranging from synthetic new drugs to new bio drugs, focusing on new drug development and consignment production (CMO). It will also strengthen innovative new drug business, such as a new drug for degrading target proteins, with US bio company Roivant. It will expand its scope to high-growth bio CMO, starting with Iposkesi, a French gene therapy drug CDMO company that is pursuing an acquisition.

The digital investment center targets the emerging tech market such as artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomous driving. Expand eco-friendly mobility business and strengthen digital capabilities in the infrastructure field.

SK cooperates with external partners to foster four core businesses. The plan is to create an investment ecosystem as a platform specialized in investment by actively attracting capital and technology.
