Among the travel themes newly emerged with Corona 19, the selection of the 20s was concentrated in’Mocance’. Mocance refers to a travel theme that enjoys a separate break from others in a motel (small and medium-sized hotel). It is interpreted as a trend of luxury motels, convenience of reservation, and the emergence of thorough quarantine facilities.
According to a survey by Korea’s representative comprehensive lodging and mobile ticket reservation platform, Yeooheon, 49% of app users in their 20s experienced’Mocance’ for the first time last year when the sky was blocked.
It is second only to Hocance (50%) among various domestic travel products and trends that have emerged as a substitute for overseas travel. This is a whopping 36 percentage points higher than those in their 50s (13%), reflecting the expansion of motel usage, especially in their 20s. It is to use the motel as a place to rest in each way, such as delivering food from a restaurant and having a quiet meeting or watching OTT video.
Motels provide interiors and additional services comparable to hotels, and the interest of young consumers is increasing in recent years. In order to reduce the fear of infectious diseases, the number of accommodations promising thorough quarantine has been increasing, attracting attention as a small play area that replaces overseas travel.
An official from here said, “Motels are transforming into accommodations that lead a new spatial culture and travel trend,” and said, “Twenties familiar with mobile reservation platforms are the first to respond.”
