Reports reported that Samsung Electronics is considering the construction of a semiconductor plant in Texas, Arizona or New York State with an investment of up to 17 billion dollars. With the news that it will invest 10 billion dollars to expand the Texas semiconductor plant, attention is drawing on whether Samsung Electronics’ investment plan in the US will become visible.
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on the 22nd (local time) that Samsung Electronics is considering the construction of a semiconductor plant in the US for 17 billion dollars (about 18 trillion won).
The three places Samsung Electronics is considering as the site of the new semiconductor factory are: ▷Phoenix, Arizona ▷Austin, Texas, ▷Genesis County, New York.
WSJ explained that Samsung Electronics came out while the US was trying to increase its semiconductor production capacity and lower its dependence on Asian countries such as Taiwan, China, and Korea.
According to a letter exchanged between Samsung Electronics and the authorities of Goodyear, Arizona, Samsung Electronics plans to hire 1,900 people with the goal of starting the factory in October 2022.
It is analyzed that the variable of new plant construction will depend on incentives.
The United States does not give preferential treatment for building a semiconductor factory at the federal level, but an exceptional incentive can be expected in that some automobile production is delayed due to shortage of semiconductors around the world.
In the case of Goodyear, it provides incentives for large industrial projects such as reduction of ordinary tax and expansion of intra.
Earlier, Bloomberg also reported that Samsung Electronics is considering expanding a semiconductor plant by investing more than 10 billion dollars (about 11 trillion won) in Texas.
In this report on investment in semiconductor factories in the US, an official from Samsung Electronics said, “Factory investment is a matter under consideration, but the scale or timing of the investment has not been decided yet.
