The Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office issued a seizure and search warrant against the Office of the Inspector General of the Ministry of Justice, the Office of the Head of Immigration and Foreigners Policy, Incheon Airport Immigration and Foreigners Office, the Planning and Coordination Department, and the Fair Trade Commission from 10 am on the same day.

In the future, the confiscated material will be analyzed and the allegations raised will be confirmed by comparing it with a public interest report containing an illegal act in the process of urgent withdrawal measures against former Vice Minister Kim.

According to the public interest report, public officials at the Immigration Division of the Ministry of Justice at the time inquired 177 times from the morning of March 19, 2019 to the afternoon of the 22nd of the same month, inquiring personal information including the name, date of birth, and immigration control information of former Vice Minister Kim. Reported to the top.

In addition, the former Minister of Justice Park Sang-sang and Cha Gyu-geun, the head of the Immigration Division, approved the request for withdrawal in the morning of the 23rd, a day later, knowing that the prosecutor, who did not have the right to investigate, illegally banned former Vice Minister Kim from using the personal information obtained in this way. The prosecutor is known to have submitted a “emergency withdrawal request” to the Ministry of Justice with the case number that former Vice Minister Kim had been accused of, and after blocking departure, he wrote a “emergency withdrawal approval request” with an internal internal number that did not exist at the time to obtain post-departure approval.

Inside and outside the prosecution, the Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office set up an investigation team of five prosecutors headed by Lee Jung-seop (the 49th and 32nd units) as the team leader on the 14th, a day after the re-arrangement of the case, and then switched to a forced investigation within a week. It is expected that a summons investigation will be conducted on the person involved in the case sooner or later.
