The official name of the national park to be built on the return site of the US military base in Yongsan, Seoul has been confirmed as’Yongsan Park’. It was pointed out whether it was a waste of blood tax as the result of the contest for two months and a prize money of 10 million won was finally decided as Yongsan Park.

On the 21st, the Yongsan Park Creation Promotion Committee announced the final selection of the Yongsan Park name contest through an official blog. The result was’Yongsan Park’. The reason was that it has been used for over 10 years, and it is familiar, easy to call, and intuitively recalls objects.

The problem is that this is the result of receiving 9401 entries from the competition over two months. The Promotion Committee held a contest from October to December last year, and selected and judged Yongsan Neulpum Park, Yongsan Open Park, Yongsan Mirmo Park, and Yongsan National Park as candidates. ‘Yongsan Park’ with the highest overall score was confirmed by combining the expert review and online preference survey.

The committee announced that it will grant 5 million won in prize money to the Chairman of the Yongsan Park Promotion Committee, which is the first prize, and 10 million won, including 2 million won, to winners of the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Mayor of Seoul.

However, when the original name’Yongsan Park’ was selected, it was excluded from the award, and in the end, 5 million won each was awarded from the second prize that was not selected. Among netizens, it was pointed out that “Why did you run the competition with tax if it would be like this?”

Accordingly, the committee deleted the card news announcing the winning work from the social network service (SNS) and official blog.
